Tire load index chart
The load index is the number after the tire size. It tells you the maximum weight each tire can carry when properly inflated.

Questions
- What is a tire load index?
- A number on the sidewall, right after the size (the 102 in 225/65R17 102H), that stands for the most weight one tire can carry at its maximum inflation pressure.
- Can I use a higher load index than my original tires?
- Yes. A higher load index is always safe. Never go lower than the load index on your vehicle placard.
- How much weight can four tires carry?
- Multiply the per-tire capacity by four. For load index 100 (1,764 lbs), four tires carry 7,056 lbs, which should exceed your vehicle's gross weight rating.
